The History of Urban Tree Service

We began A Tree Health Company, Inc. over 17 years ago with one motive; to make sure that our customers get the best attention and professionalism possible. That mission has not changed; although our organization has continually adapted to new methods to assure that individual service objectives are met. Starting in 1990 with 8 employees, 3 vehicles and working out of a 2 room trailer, we have come a long way. Currently our staff numbers more than 26 and our fleet of over 20 vehicles service customers in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts.

Employees and customers have been instrumental to our growth. The quality of our work and attention to detail has also been recognized as we have been named the #1 Tree Care/Arborist in New England for four consecutive years.

We learn from our customer’s calls and the many little notes of thanks and appreciation that arrive every day. We learn from our enthusiastic workers, who can smile on a cold snowy January morning and put in a good day’s work. We also learn from the hard days as well, as they move us to a higher level of community and understanding.

As you scan this site you’ll learn more about our fellow workers, some of our newest endeavors, and our community involvement. We hope you will find this site informative and an easy alternative method of contacting us. This is all part of our ongoing and growing dedication to be the best “Tree Health Company” in our region.

Why choose an accredited tree care company?
Accreditation follows a rigorous application process that is built on a threefold foundation of ethics, quality and consumer confidence. It pre-qualifies companies to safeguard consumers in audit areas such as:

  • Consumer Satisfaction
  • Best Business Practices
  • Ethical Business Conduct
  • Employee Training
  • Safety
  • Quality
  • Compliance with Industry Standards
  • Arborist Certification
  • Insurance Coverage
  • Work Estimates & Specifications

What Safeguards Are Built into TCIA Accreditation?
Companies accredited by TCIA are required to provide documented proof in many areas that protect consumers. Even tree care sales personnel must be trained to a level of technical proficiency equivalent to TCIA’s Tree Care Specialist credential. This training includes tree biology, pruning standards, transplanting, tree disease and injury diagnosis, construction injury prevention, safety, soil science, and disease and pest control.

When you hire an Accredited tree care company, you can rest assured that TCIA has checked for proper insurance, applicable business and pesticide licenses, and customer service that is reliable and ethical.

What Is TCIA Accreditation?
TCIA Accreditation is a voluntary compliance program administered by the Tree Care Industry Association – America’s oldest and most respected tree care trade association. The TCIA Accreditation program is similar to an ISO 9001-type quality compliance program but tailored specifically for tree care companies that meet stringent criteria.

The Role of Tree Care Companies
It’s hard to imagine a world without the cool comfort of shade trees, without the gentle sound of wind blowing through the leaves on a summer day, without grand, healthy trees for your clients, employees and the community to enjoy.

Accredited tree care companies employ staff trained in tree biology and the proper methods used to keep trees and shrubs healthy. They can identify diseases and pests that threaten the well being of trees and shrubs.

Accredited tree care companies also help protect people and assets from injury or property damage caused by trees with defects, such as cracked limbs and trunks, decayed limbs and trunks, and damaged root systems. Sometimes these defects are hidden inside the trunk, root system or high in the crown.

It takes a trained expert to recognize all the possible health issues and hazards.

What’s the Difference Between Certification and Accreditation?
Arborist certification is a process by which individual practitioners are tested to demonstrate a certain standard of tree care knowledge. Professional certification is a voluntary process that recognizes an individual who has met specific qualifications. It is important to remember that certification only sets a threshold of required knowledge, not the ceiling, and that professionals can practice tree care without being certified. Some states require licensing of arborists, which is not the same as certification and is not voluntary. TCIA Accreditation checks to see that businesses in these states hold the proper licenses.

TCIA Accreditation is also a voluntary process, but it evaluates entire businesses to ensure that all employees that work on your property meet professional practices and standards. While certification attests to the fact that an individual practitioner has an acceptable level of skill or proficiency, only the process of accreditation looks at the overall manner in which a company conducts business.
