Urban Tree Service Joins Governor to Commemorate General Marquis de Lafayette Day

To commemorate General Marquis de Lafayette Day, members of Urban Tree Service/A Tree Health Company, Inc., joined Governor John Lynch; Secretary of State William Gardner; Honorable Marilinda Garcia and Mrs. Dèsirèe Tidwell; Mme Adële Bouffard Baker, Consul honoraire de France au NH; and Hon. Christophe Guilhou, Consul general de France - Boston to plant a new Elm Tree to replace a previous tree planted in the General's name.

On May 19, attendees joined together on the State House Grounds to commemorate the 185th anniversary of General Lafayette's visit to Concord and his address to a joint session of the NH General Court. The elm tree planting was a replacement of an elm tree that marked the General's seat during his visit on June 22, 1825. The tree lasted 130 years. The replacement, named the Lafayette Liberty Elm, was acquired and planted with assistance from Ed Hopkins, president of Urban Tree Service, the Elm Research Institute and Filtrins Manufacturing.

"To be a part of a moment in history is really something. Urban Tree Service was pleased to help with this special project," said Ed Hopkins, president of Urban Tree Service. "The elm tree is a symbol of liberty and represents General Lafayette's loyalty and dedication to American independence and his position as an ally to General George Washington."
